Fiesta de intercambios
ISA planned an exciting activity for us this morning. We weren't quite sure what to expect, but they told us that we would meet some Spanish students for an intercambio (a conversation where we practice our Spanish and they practice their English) and we would get some free drinks and tapas. They also advised us to wear work-out clothes. We took a coach bus to the other side of town, to a sports complex of UGR. The Spanish students were waiting for us there. We all went into a gym and they played music and we did these crazy activities where half the time we didn't know what was going on. We did a lot of running back and forth (sometimes while holding hands with a partner, sometimes all in one long chain), dancing in groups, and follow-the-leader. After and hour of that, we went into a gym in another building and learned how to play Spiribol. It was kind of like tetherball, I guess, with the ball hanging from a pole by a thin rope, except it was a tennis ball, and we used wooden paddles (kind of like the ones used in pickleball). It was fun to try, but difficult to get the hang of, and also scary to have a ball flying all over and sometimes the rope would wrap itself around you. After we played that for about an hour, we went over to a cafetería to get our free drinks and tapas. I was so happy that the tapa we got was Tortilla Española, my favorite thing in this whole country. Overall, it was a lot of fun, and we got to meet some Spanish people, so that was cool, too.
