Vamos a la playa!

Yesterday I went to Salobreña, a beach town an hour´s bus ride away, with two of my friends.  Those of you who know how I feel about being out in the sun all day will understand my apprehension, but I could not pass up this chance to swim in the Mediterranean Sea.  Needless to say, the beach was gorgeous.  We could see a castle up in the mountains.  The sand was different.  It was more like a mix of tiny pebbles than sand.  The water was a little cold, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it.  Just lying back and floating on the  salt water is one of the coolest feelings in the world.  Once I was done swimming, it was actually kind of nice to dry off and warm up in the sun.  It also just so happened to be a holiday in Salobreña.  Today is the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary, their patron Virgin, so they were celebrating yesterday. (Every town has their own patron Virgin Mary. Granada's is Our Lady of Anguish, whose feast was last weekend.)  A lot of people were dressed up in flamenco dresses, there were some booths set up selling things, and lots of people were just out and about, eating and partying and doing whatever it is Spanish people do at all of these festivals that they have.  Some people were going for horseback rides along the beach, which was pretty cool.

Of course I had to make a Stonehenge with the little rocks in the sand.
